Round 3?...

Obviously my first 2 attempts at the sleep cycle have failed miserably (the first attempt was better than the second). Here's hoping that third time is a charm! I had a very short sleep yesterday, and have not taken any naps, I think I'm in a good position to start another round now!

So I'm going to only sleep 4 hours when I get to bed today, and do a 30 minute nap around 5pm and another 30 min nap around 2am. Let's see if i can do it this time!!!

A2 Day 7

Wooo one week. Although I'm not very proud of myself since I have been quite lazy in my naps and over sleeping :(

It's hard when there is really nothing to wake up for during the day, so im going to try to plan some sort of activity every day. Like today, greek lunch and the beach! Time to hit the sack!

A2 Day 5

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. One reason is because nothing really exciting has developed and two, I have been super busy at work. Yesterday, the only crappy thing was that I forgot to take my afternoon nap. I was talking with my friends and was complaining that today I have felt the most tired and groggy, all the while not realizing I was feeling that way because my nap time had come and gone. It was pretty brutal waiting for my 2am nap, but after I took it I felt soooooo much better. I made a cup of coffee and I was good to go until 8:30am.

One thing I am a little disappointed about are my dreams. I am having clear vivid dreams when I am taking my nap, so I know I am in REM sleep during them, but the fact is that they are just so boring. Mundane, work related dreams, or me just talking to people. I dont know if this is just a result in my change in sleep pattern, or the fact that I'm knee deep in this AE job, that Hardcore Pawn is the only thing I think about (most of my dreams have to do with the pawn shop that is in the TV show I work for). I used to have epic dreams of flight, fighting, love and death. Dreams were so cool that I wrote several down. I was hoping to keep a dream journal along with this sleep account, but so far there is nothing to write home about. Speaking of home...

I'm going to my parents house this weekend for mother's day. I reeeeeally hope they don't give me problems with my sleep schedule. Either them waking me up or me getting too comfortable and over sleeping, in any case it would be bad. I am looking forward to all the yummy food and coffee though....

And everyone must watch ***THIS***

A2 Day 2

A relatively uneventful day today. Besides feeling very groggy after my core nap, I have felt pretty good all day. I'm beginning to think this sleep thing is working! I got up from my night nap about a half an hour ago (2:30 am), before I took it I was feeling pretty sleepy and unfocused. When I took the nap I fell asleep right away and I feel great now, way better than I did when I first came to work at 7 pm.

The only thing I have been concerned about lately is my eating habits. they haven't been the best since I started this whole process and I know if I start eating better I will feel awesome. Its a mixture of not know what stuff to buy and laziness that is holding me back :P

If I have enough will power to starve myself of sleep, I think getting on a healthy diet should be easy... right?

I welcome any food suggestions :)

Attempt 2 Day 1 cont.

So after a slew of bad news from work today I felt pretty drained and took a much longer afternoon nap than I had wanted, slept for over an hour rather than 20 minutes. So I'm going to skip the nigh napt and hopefully be OK for tomorrow. The good news is I am having vivid dreams when I'm napping so I know I'm getting full REM cycles, and a lot of the times I will wake up before my alarm so I think my body is getting used to the process. Wish me better luck for tomorrow!

Attempt 2 Day 1

So the first day has gone well so far. Upon reading the experiences of other polyphasic sleepers I decided to gradually get down to 4-5 hours of sleep. Today I slept a 5 hour core nap from 8am to 1pm. it was a bit difficult to wake up, but not too bad because I had set the coffee machine to go off right when I woke up :)

I almost forgot to take an afternoon nap since I was running around doing errands, but when I got home I felt really sleepy around 6 and took a 40 minute nap. I fell asleep right away and had very vivid dreams (of me getting arrested for driving without my lights on, fun dream), and woke up feeling a little sleepy but not dreadful. I plan on taking a nap at 2am sometime, then going for a swim at 5am, then back to bed again at 8 for my core. I think I'm going to do one more day of 5 hours of core naptime and dial it down to 4 on Tuesday. I feel less stress this time around and I feel it will help my body get used to this new sleep schedule naturally. Here's to hoping!

Day 2 of Hiatus

Felt a LITTLE rested sleeping a full 8 hours today, but I was still way sleepy when I rolled out of bed. With the help of Landon's nagging I went to the gym before work, and it felt great! I only did a 30 minute workout, but it felt good to get the blood pumping.

I need to get some goggles and a swim cap because I think I threw mine away accidently :(
I really want to start swimming again. I think I will try to get to the gym after work at least every other day if I'm not stuck at work too late. With this schedule down and a much more simpler sleep schedule I think the process will be much kinder on my body. I'm also trying to drink more water, which I know I wasn't drinking enough of during the first attempt at the sleep cycle. So hopefully with all these positive changes the experiment will go more smoothly. One more day of catch up and planning, then it's back to 5 hours a day!!

Here is a fun map and blog website I found on someone elses blog. Nice to see a lot of people out there trying this out!: http://trypolyphasic.com/map
